First Meeting Rhizome

As suggested by National Geography we are all going to travel to ‘off the beaten path’ AGAR, stay with locals and help local economy.
Here is the timetable of our 1st Meet.

13th February

3 pm Onwards:
Ceremonial Welcome and Introductions
Watching sunset from hills and planting seed bombs
Bonfire, musical evening and dinner

14th February

10 am Onwards:
Presentation by Sparks.
Sparks show casing, donating and selling their products.
Working Lunch
Workshops
Making Seed Bombs
Menstrual Hygiene
Sculpture making
Street theatre
Star gazing and dinner

15th February

10 am Onwards:
Educational Community art work on every surface of Masti ki Paathshala adding colour , life and usefulness to the place
Working Lunch
Visit rain water harvesting structures & carpet weaving
Rajasthani Dinner with folk music and dance

16th February

10 am Onwards:
Visit Sariska National Park
Closing ceremony & Oath taking at Sariska Guest House
Closing Lunch

Lets change the monochromatic surroundings of Agar/ Masti Ki Pathshala to a colourful, lively place by the collective’s effort of all and may our travel be safe and compassionate.

Adittee Garg

Adittee is a hopeless romantic and dreamer. She creates magic with clay. Her work is in Rashtrapati Bhavan and Kartar Pur Corridor. As a child her passion was to watch potters create from their imagination thus she learnt moulding clay with her incredible imagination and the magic in her fingers.Family environs made her do masters in Business Administration - Finance. Five years of her life got wasted in corporate world.Her mind was always revolving around forms and colours and her fingers wanted to play with different mediums.She resigned and restarted her formal education, this time in Fine Arts at Banaras Hindu University.During her journey as a Sculptor she understood moods and nature, specialized in the natural and man made mediums and has started activism against man made sculpting materials. She is popularizing sculpting for personality enrichment and economic growth.

Iqbal has been a Gold Medalist,first woman to have a doctorate on Indian monkeys in the wild, German Scientist Exchange Fellow, Full Bright Fellow, Associate Professor at Institute of Home Economics-Delhi University, Adjunct Professor at State University of New York Buffalo, Member Wild Life Board of India, Animal Welfare Board of India,Ridge Monitoring Committee, Plastic Monitoring Committee,founder member Central Zoo Authority & Committee for Protection and Supervision of Experiments on Animals, has authored 19 books, 120 Scientific Review Papers,200 News Print articles, an Anchor or commentator for over 100 Television Transmissions two of which received Green Oscar and been awarded ‘Green Citizen’ by Dr Abdul Kalam.

Katja Polc

Katja is a country girl from Slovenia who chose India to be her second home where she taught under privileged youth, promoted sustainable action and lifestyle. She followed her passion and did her Masters of sustainable development and specialized Global education and Education for sustainable development.Currently engaged with LEAD India, she is working on water conservation project in private and government schools. This out of the box girl is ready to do, think and perform in new ways. Her professional and informal learning’s have helped her live a conservationist, naturalist and outwardly simple but inwardly rich life.

Reeta Bagai

Rita has been teaching Human Development with Delhi University.As a social scientist she has worked for over 40 years with people of diverse background and versatile skill sets. Her doctoral work focused on the process of imbibing family and cultural practices in children for competence amongst nomadic Gujjars and migrant labor and she concluded that the difference in their level of competence is presence or absence of family support and interactions. In Canada she assessed, provided consultation and developed programmes for families of developmentally challenged children and taught early childhood education.

A fantastic childhood in Nairobi with great parents,strong family bonds, good schools, good friends the family was followed by moving out in 1963.Life restarted from scratch. His jobs ranged from loading-unloading iron bars to ticketing agent. He carried on following his mother’s guiding principles ( be in time, work hard, alert mind ,learn, have a positive body language passionate heart, and grateful) Then he started his own aviation company in Canada.His outstanding awards have been Mother Teresa Humanitarian Award,being called a gift from his motherland India to Canada and honoured with Excellence Award Philanthropic Activities.

Dr. Rodney Johnson

Full Bright Fellow-Anthropology & Archaeology. Rodney is researcher a par excellence, can conceptualize a field research, innovate the data sheet, mentor the team and analyse the data using latest techniques. He has worked in India, Nepal, Silver Springs and Florida Keys USA. He undertook the first ever long term field research on mother-infant relationships in any Asian non human primate, maternal care in relation to population growth, postpartum mating behaviour, endocrinology, ecological constrains on the development of Infant independence in rhesus.

Seema K Arora

Seema got her formal education and learnt her feminine leadership style from Wellesley College, the illustrious academy Post Graduation Degree in International Development is from Ivy League Harvard University.Though she joined L.E.K. – a London based Management Consulting Firm, but rebelled when realized that her knowledge,expertise and ability to create wealth was for a mere business house than to improve the lives of the needy. She resigned, applied and got for the most difficult internship with United Nation Development Program to combat poverty in the world. She was stationed in South Africa – the country with the highest number of HIV. Corollary was Seema joining Clinton Foundation - Clinton Health Access Initiative and now Director, Donor Engagement, Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI) Infectious Diseases programs, interacting with major Donor and supporting the program’s fund raising efforts.

Aashirbad Raha

Ashirbad is as dedicated to his heart wrenching poetry, as to his old parents in Ranchi, fulfilment of his wife’s hobbies, editing books, writing journals and being Associate Director Communications (India) Energy Policy Institute at University of Chicago. A philosopher poet Litterateur he epitomizes Durwa in Ranchi his birthplace because of his love for natural beauty, culture and hospitality. He leads his Communication team at EPIC India, which is responsible for simplifying institutional research to drive policy change through cross-institutional policy engagement, media interactions, social media marketing and public events. A former journalist, he has over 11 years of strategic communication and stakeholder engagement experience working in, and with media research groups in India and neighbouring South Asian countries.
